Clancy has created an archetypal American hero in John Kelly/Clark, a vigilante character seemingly transported from the "old West." In this book, we learn the origin of the legendary Mr. Clark.



Clark is my favorite Clancy character, and is high in my pantheon along with Horatio Hornblower and WEB Griffin's Goeffrey Craig.



Anyone who has suffered a wrenching loss or worn the uniform should appreciate this book. Most men would hope to have the courage to act as Kelly did.



It is my earnest hope that when this becomes a movie, it sticks closer to the story than did SUM OF ALL FEARS and MUCH closer than CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER, which kept little more than the title and some character names.
