“Promised much - delivered little! ”

written by 256Spence on 15/12/2014

When we asked William H Brown to advise us on selling our property the Local Branch Manager visited us - he had a very professional manner and was very enthusiastic about the property.
Unfortunately that was the only time we could use the word professional and William H Brown in the same sentence.
We were promised regular (monthly) updates from our designated sales agent - An apparent high staff turnover meant that we were passed from one person to the next with little or no continuity and updates seemed to wait until we rang them.
The 'My Account' feature on their website which was supposed to be a means of keeping track of interest in the property was a waste of time as the figures did not relate to Rightmove activity - no one really ever explained where the figures on My Account came from!
The only constant was William H Brown staff 'advising' us to drop the asking price to attract a sale.
When questioned why the original valuation had been too high the response was that the person who did the marketing had left and they couldn't possibly comment on his actions.
They seem to like the phrase "you need to compromise" - However, compromise did not apply when they were asked about their 'Fixed Fee' which was pegged to the original asking price.
As time passed the staff became less and less interested and through what little contact we had it appeared to us that selling at any price was their goal in order to get their fixed fee commission.
We did eventually get an offer some £55,000 below the original asking price but even that fell through - during the period of the offer we seriously had to ask who William H Brown were acting for - us or the potential buyers - as the sales agents attitude was so off hand and unprofessional towards us - yet again conversations were all about us compromising so as not to loose a sale (a sale at any price?)
We eventually came to our senses and sacked William H Brown - even then we had to chase them as they did not even have the professionalism to acknowledge our correspondence.
Would I ever use William H Brown again or recommend them to others... NEVER.
They do not even rate 1 star but that is as low a rating as this system allows.
