My dog has PRA and developed cataracts. Initial thinking was surgery was pointless as he would still go blind in the future. Following a large study in the USA it was found that with cataract removal a dog was far less likely to need its eyes removed so my ophthalmologist suggested we follow this route. He had both cataracts removed in the one procedure.
We obtained pre authorisation but surgery had to be delayed and did not take place until the start of a new policy year. Pet Plan honoured the original authorisation and paid out the maximum on my policy within days of claim.
My dog now has vision once again. He is no longer in discomfort and whilst he will go blind again he is living life to the full and has regained his confidence and zest for life.
I cannot thank Pet Plan enough. The surgery was over £4800 and they paid out immediately despite it being a new policy year. I phoned them a couple of times for assistance and they were unfailingly helpful and polite. This is the first time I have insured a pet and I cannot recommend Pet Plan enough for giving him his life back. I will most certainly insure any future pets with them
