“No Customer Loyalty”

written by ElliotLove186 on 08/12/2014

I have been with the Coop bank since leaving school at 16. I am now 46.
When I had my children and no money of my own coming in, I was offered overdrafts up to £2,500 and loans aplenty.

Fast forward 20 years, now divorced, bit more money coming in, but need a little 'sub' every now and again and it's a big fat no to a minimal overdraft despite still sending me literature offering loans.

Recently, with a broken car and no lump sum to get it fixed, I filled in one of said loan applications and waited.

To my surprise, it came back yes! Ah, the answer to my prayers, thought I.
Not so. A woman rang me, asked what my income consisted of - currently tax credits, child benefit and CSA payments from my ex - (I am still fruitlessly looking for someone who will give a job to a 46 year old woman, who has been raising her family for the past 15 years).

'Oh' she said. That changed things. The loan they were going to offer me based on the money I have coming in, was no longer valid as that same money consisted of benefits! Great.

So despite 30 years of being a loyal customer, knowing my banking habits inside out and that I am not in debt elsewhere, the Coop snatched away help in my hour of need.

Oh, and just for the record, some time ago, my bank account was hacked - passwords, numbers, online banking log-in, everything.

After virtually accusing me of defrauding myself, or handing out my banking info like raffle tickets to all and sundry, they finally and begrudging paid the money taken, back into my account three months later when I was by now, behind with rent, bills etc.

I now have another bank account elsewhere as standby, but sometimes I suppose it's a case of better the devil you know.
