“Is this a competitive deal?”

written by Garynola on 05/12/2014

I recently visited the North Island for a eight day holiday, loved the country and had a terrific time. Found good accommodation, cultural shows
train and boat cruises, National park visits and all at reasonable prices.

So I have to question why my rental vehicle costs were so high.

I selected Cartrawler to find a vehicle for me as they are a world wide company and promise 'the greatest selection of cars and prices every time, everywhere'

Cartrawler in turn, through their contracted agent the 'Picton Visitor Information Site Team' directed me to Scotties who advertised a 2014 fleet including the Hyundai i20 I had requested.

I paid out approximately $65 a day for seven days,(this was the base rate as I had already taken out excess cover thru Cartrawler) in return l received 2010 model Hyundai Getz with 105,000 kilometres on the clock. Making enquiries my email with the owner/manager I was informed the vehicle supplied was their 'premium' class car. Obviously our views differ on the interpretation of 'premium'.

I don't know if Scotties got a fair cut of the $470 or the agents do take up to 35% commission as stated by Scotties in their email, I can't help but feel that either Cartrawler or Scotties didn't do the right thing by a customer.

I have marked the company low for customer service, this doesn't apply for staff I dealt with on handover but the difficulty I experienced liaising by email with the owner/manager.
