“Inept installation "experts"”

I ordered a gas oven from John Lewis on the basis of their reputation, I should have come on here first!
While their delivery and installation date was much later than others we felt confident that there would be less hassle with such a reputable name behind it.
The installers came when they said, but expected the old cooker to be removed ready for them. I understand that it is illegal for anyone other than a Gas Certified engineer to do anything with gas, so why expect that?
They then reluctantly attempted to remove the old oven, and then announced that there were "major problems"!
They claimed that the gas supply was by lead piping! The installation is only 30 years old, lead hasn't been used for 50 years or more.
They also claimed that they carried no fittings to enable them to connect it anyway.
What an utter and complete waste of time.
My recommendation is to only use JL to lever price comparisons from someone else, anyone else!
