“The Old Olerton in Wellington ”

written by Merybirkill on 27/11/2014

My wife and I were treated to a red letter days meal voucher by some good friends of ours and after looking on the internet, reading various reviews etc, settled on the Old Olerton. Being booked in advance, we were really looking forward to the meal and on the day we were not disappointed.
Upon our arrival we entered a very charming and relaxing environment. Were the staff always had a smile on thier face, happy to offer suggestions and recommendations. After relaxing over a glass of wine we shared a mackerel pate with home made bread rolls, chutney and pickeled red cabbage. Very tasty and could of been a meal in its self.
Looking back on the night, all the courses were spaced out, and not rushed as we have experienced in previous restaurants. The main courses were slow cooked lamb shank with sea food crockpot with a selection of fresh locally sourced vegetables. We each sampled each other's food and agreed that the flavours and portions were more than ample. The final dish was the sweet and consisted of a trio of home made chocolate fudge cake, bread and butter pudding and lemon and lime cheese cake. To eat this was a labour of love, but what's a few extra hours in the gym when you have lovely food to eat?
We would recommend it? Yes we would, as that special evening I was hoping to get with my wife was more than matched with the service we experienced at the Old Olerton.
