While getting a quote on bewiser's website, they phoned us and made us a good offer on car insurance which we accepted on the spot based on the information they'd provided on the phone.
The e-mailed quote which came through stated the wrong number of years of No Claims Discount, so we phoned back to correct this information and they said it couldn't be corrected and that the policy had been set up with the wrong information, so we cancelled the insurance (within 24 hours of purchase, and before the policy came into effect!). On the phone they said that agreed to cancel the policy purchase.
We thought that was the end of it, but the following week Be Wiser took a full year's policy premium from us. They keep sending computer-generated letters which do not agree with information we've exchanged by phone. And they say they want to retain a cancellation fee for cancellation of the policy. This is outrageous.
Two months (and many phone calls) later, we are still waiting for any refund. We've now taken this to the ombudsman, and are hoping that will lead to a resolution.
A quick internet search will show you that we are not alone in our bad experience with Be Wiser... Be warned!
