“avoid Penicuik at any price”

written by Hanley227 on 17/11/2014

Penicuik usual selling methods, never accept the 1st or 2nd price from a salesman, as the office will come offering a lower price.

We were keen to press ahead and have a total of 8 windows and doors fitted so we accepted the latest price that the office quoted. The sales representative then returned with the relevant paper work which was duly filled in and signed, he phoned the office, checked the costs with his superiors, and was paid the 10% deposit as requested.

A day later their surveyor turned up to measure up and check the details of opening sides and hinges etc, and said the office would be in contact to arrange a date for installation.

A few days later we received a phone call from the office manager advising that they could no longer supply and fit the doors and windows for the price quoted and as agreed on their paper work. We were not willing to pay a further £300 as that would have made Penicuik dearer than other quotes that we had received. As this was still within the 7 days cancellation period, we e.mailed the company and stated that we considered them to have cancelled the contract and requested our deposit be returned without delay.

We have now made several phone calls to Penicuik using the phone number on which their office manager advised us they were not willing to honour the price quoted. Some 8 days later we are still waiting on our money being returned, have had nothing but empty promises with no returned phone calls or e.mails, a failure from the office manager to supply me the Head Office phone number and address, and finally the phone hung up on me.

To date we have been extremely reasonable and civil, but now due to Penicuik's actions, or the lack of, we consider that our next step will be to contact Trading Standards with a formal complaint, or speak with our Lawyers with a view to raising a claim for 'breach of contract'
I consider that if this is how a company does business then they no longer deserve to be in business.
