“Scam Artists - Fuel Overcharge”

written by JoyDominguez134 on 14/11/2014

We rented a prepaid vehicle from Thrifty at Johannesburg International Airport. On arriving back home, a unknown charge of R117 was charged to my credit card. On querying it, I was informed that it for refueling the vehicle.
Fortunately, I had kept the petrol slip, which was scanned and sent to them. The vehicle was filled up at the Engen Skystop, which is at the Airport. (Note that in South Africa, your car is filled up for you by a petrol attendant).
As we had only done +- 50 km (hotel and back), I calculated with their extra fuel charge, that their little 1.5l vehicle consumes over 20l per 100km. It does not take a rocket scientist to figure out that this falls well outside of the normal usage parameters.
Either some staff member decided to use the car for a joy ride after we had handed it back, or having read all the Thrifty reviews, this looks like a typical Thrifty scheme.
I am sure that all these 'overcharges' add up to quite a lucrative amount for Thrifty.

The problem with this is that I will never again use Thrifty. I have ensured that no employee of my Company uses Thrifty.
The negative publicity that you generate must far outweigh any short term gains that you make!
