“Never again!!”

written by VeronLM on 13/11/2014

My husband bought an Essentials dishwasher from Currys in Mahon Point, Cork, Ireland and it never worked. He spent hours trying to contact them on their 1890 number and kept getting messages saying all their operators were busy. When he eventually got through, he was given a code number and told to bring the machine back to the store, quoting the code number, and he would be given an exchange. He was also given the phone number for the Cork store but whenever he phoned it, it reverted to the 1890 number where all the operators were busy. I sent a message to Currys via Facebook and my husband received a call this morning.

The representative told my husband that because we collected the machine from the stores in Cork, we have to bring it back to Cork for an exchange. We paid a plumber €70 to have the machine installed, we now have to pay another €70 to have it disconnected and another €70 to have the new one connected. That's a total of €210 plus petrol costs of €60 making a grand total of €270 for a dishwasher that cost €179.99. That’s not taking into account our petrol expenses for two round trips to Cork.

One would think that Currys could be a little more accommodating as it wasn’t our fault that they sold us a faulty product. In my opinion, I think Currys realise that we may not be able to bring the appliance back to the store and they won’t have to replace it, which means they have made themselves a tidy little profit and to hell with us.

The moral of the story is, DON’T SHOP IN CURRYS.

Update:
We have just been informed by Currys that we didn’t opt for home delivery so we have to return the appliance to the store.
The following is my reply to them:

According to your website, home delivery was not available for this dishwasher. See http://www.currys.ie/Product/essentials-cdwtt13-compact-dishwasher-white/318552/2.8 so we had no option but to call to the store to collect it. We also wanted to purchase a splashback for €39 and were told it wasn’t available for collection but it could be ordered and delivered for €20. Seeing as we were already in the store and the machine was in the trolley ready to put into our car, it made sense (at the time) to take the machine with us and do without the splashback.

Also, we didn’t opt to have you install the dishwasher because we didn’t know what fittings etc were required as stated on your website.

At the end of the day, the fact remains that you (Currys) sold us a faulty appliance and are now holding us responsible for all the expense involved in returning it.

We should have read all the bad reviews about Currys before making our purchase but I can assure you we won’t be going anywhere near Currys in the future – except to return your piece of junk.
