“Total Rubbish!”

written by Cooney55 on 11/11/2014

Never again will we use Cross Country Trains from Newcastle to Scotland. The particular service was chosen because it was direct to Glasgow. However only when we arrived at Newcastle we found that it terminated at Edinburgh so we had to change trains. On the return journey, on checking the board at Glasgow Central at 14.30 for the 15.00 train to Newcastle it showed that the train was running to time. Fifteen minutes later after returning from a coffee it been cancelled, surely they could give more notice of changes to a service. for us a change again in Edinburgh and the next Cross Country service from that station would have meant an hour to wait. However there were a number of people affected and East Coast allowed us to use their service departing about 20 minutes later. A big thank you to East Coast Trains.
First class on Cross Country was a joke, we had coffee in a paper cup and a packet of two shortbread biscuits. The coach was certainly not over comfortable. On our return with East Coast Trains we were offered beverages in proper mugs, drinks, sandwiches and hot meals served with a smile by very pleasant staff. The seating etc on this train was very much superior to Cross Country.
Incidentally only a week or two before my friend had much the same problem for the same journey.
Goodbye Cross Country Trains.
