General Comments
Metal gear Solid 2: Sons Of Liberty is a welcome relief to the gun related games out there. What most people will notice at first is the fantastic graphics. Considering this was released fairly early on, the graphics are one of the best out there.

Another thing is that the game has a near film storyline, a lot of the game is devoted to the fantastic cinematic scenes. These are glorious to watch but can be too long (some lasting up to about 20 mins), however you can easily skip these.

One of the things which seperates this from other gun games is that this is 3rd person. This is surprisingly effective but uses a first person view for aiming the guns. This, in my opinon, makes the game more fun and stretches it out.

A further thing is that it relies on stealth, but you can attempt guns blazing, although as most people will find this is not a good idea and the "back up squad" will surround you in seconds and kill your character very shortly after that.

A third thing which makes it original is that it has video training with the buttons for doing the action on the right. This means that if you hate reading manuals you can watch the videos and it is easier to take in.

The final thing original is the use of dog-tags. It is common to hold up an enemy point your pistol at him and he will shake off his dog-tag. This allows a second task of collecting all of the dog-tags for rewards after you complete the chapter(s).

However if you hate collecting items and you complete the game, you may find that it suddenly becomes repetitive and you may find the game rather linear. However this has not stopped me playing the game as it is superbly fun even after about 1 or 2 years on.

The only too dificult part is if you put it on hard or the extreme difficulties, however this allows hardcore fans to keep on playing without criticizing it of being too easy.

So to conclude, this is one of the best PS2 games out there of it's genre. You are only going to hate it if you hate the genre or put it on a too high difficulty or if you find the storyline too complex.
