“Hermes - Parcel NON-Delivery would be more appropriate ”

written by on 08/10/2014

I wish I had read these reviews before I foolishly decided to send two parcels with Hermes. One of them miraculously seems to have gone through but the second one has been a complete nightmare.

I noticed on the tracking record that the parcel seemed to be stuck with the local courier. I sent an email enquiry to Hermes and had an apologetic reply about my frustration. The address was correct but one digit in the postcode was incorrect. Whether it is my fault or theirs I am not sure, but as soon as I noticed, I sent them the correct postcode. By the way, a simple search on Google with the street address came up with the correct postcode in seconds, but I guess their couriers are not expected to take any initiatives like that.

Nothing happened, and after two or three more emails with the correct postcode asking them to deliver, I receive another email from Hermes claiming: "Our courier has attempted delivery of your parcel; however it was refused by an occupant at the delivery address." I immediately contacted the recipient who confirmed that no delivery had been attempted nor had it been refused and no note had been left about it. I sent more emails asking them to deliver but to no avail.

This morning I received exactly the same message as last week about the parcel having been refused. They obviously don't read any emails you send to them and just click the button to send another stupid reply. The message also says.... "Your parcel is currently being held at our delivery depot. If you wish for your parcel to be re-directed to an alternative address or returned back to you, this will incur an additional postage cost of £XXX.
Please respond within 7 days of this e-mail or the parcel will be disposed of. They gave me a telephone number to call if I wanted to pays the extra postage. I don't know if it is a premium number or what.

I don't want them to keep my parcel, if indeed they still have it, but if I pay the extra cost, what guarantee do I have that they will actually return it to me?

I would say that they are completely useless and I am surprised that they are still in business.
