I have used "booking.com" so many time to book luxury hotels, thinking they have the best prices, but just passed my local travel agent to pick some brochures, and I asked the agent to price up the same hotel, and offered me the same room, same amount of nights for £600 cheaper than booking.com !!!
This local travel agent advised that they always beat booking.com and I believe them now. Thank you "Holiday Time", Brighton, UK - I will never book again with booking.com
