Over last 6 months we've used most of an inheritance to extend our property. However, as is usual in these situations costs to cover all that's needed or desirable creep up. Throughout our lives we've always saved for the vast majority of items on our wish list, avoiding significant credit for the most part.
Now though we wanted the house completely to our liking without items like the front windows still needing replacing (back looks amazing). Hence the loan request, initially to our own bank, since we're 'customers', but they weren't interested. To add insult to injury, I understand they annotated our 'excellent' Experian record to the effect they'd refused us! Thanks a bunch, Co-op bank.
So tried Zopa peer lending (as it happens we do peer-lend some of our funds out to businesses, so thought it worth a try for us). Very pleasant treatment from customer service and very quick allocation of loan. Only point not 100% pleased with was spending 1 hour on phone in early evening before recorded message said staff at meeting (that tune is excruciating, as well!). However, enough of that - Three cheers to Zopa.
