“Extremley disappointing to say the least”

When we bought a new mattress for our son we spotted some lovely bedroom furniture and thought "why not" as our present lot had lasted us almost 25 years so owed us nothing. Having measured up the bedroom and the units we wanted, we placed and order for a sliding door wardrobe, 2x6 drawer chests, 1x5 drawer narrow chest and 2 bedside tables. Everything went well with the ordering and we were given a delivery schedule of about 6 weeks. Delivery arrived on the date we were given and the delivery men offloaded it all into my garage. I did ask if the wardrobe (which was in pieces) should really be put upstairs in the room where it was to be built and used. The driver wasn't interested in doing that and said "the people who build it can do that". I was a little concerned but he knew what happened with these things as far as I knew. Anyway, off the driver and his mate went. I checked the number of boxes and the description on each label to ensure we had what we should have had. One box size didn't fit the description of the ordered item so thought I would have a look in the box and check it as it was supposed to be delivered with only the handles needing to be fitted. It turned out to be a wrong item! Not even in the catalogue for Bensons or on display in the shop. So off we went to Bensons to sort it out. 2 hours later we set off home with the promise of a replacement in 4 to 6 weeks. So I thought I would build the internal 3 drawer unit for the wardrobe as that was to be built the next day. Could only build 2 out of the 3 drawers due to missing pieces. So I thought build a 6 drawer chest unit but found only 5 handles instead of the 10 needed for the drawers. Phoned customer services the following morning several times and got promises of new bits in 4 to 6 weeks and 2 to 4 weeks and in a couple of days. Before they came to build the wardrobe I checked the bedside tables and yes, one of them was damaged. On to customer services yet again. More promises of a replacement in 4 to 6 weeks. I now had concerns about the state of the wardrobe. When they came to build it they said they couldn't move it as not insured to do so and if it was damaged they would probably get the blame. That was the final straw, told customer services I wanted them to take it all away and give me a full refund. They said they would pick it up on Tuesday 23rd September but anything I had built, I would have to dismantle and repack it or the drivers wouldn't take it. I asked about the refund and was told I would have to wait until after the furniture had been collected. And of course, no one in the shop is now interested as they will have lost some commission. They took the money quickly enough having to pay the balance before they would deliver. This is obviously a ploy to get your money ahead of sending out second rate furniture so you cannot hold back on any payment. FURNITURE FROM BENSONS FOR BEDS? NEVER AGAIN WILL WE ENTER THE SHOP.
