I was dismayed when I found out my wife had booked a car from Goldcar but by the time I discovered it, there wasn't time to change (my dismay arose from 2 previous disappointments at Malaga airport). I took out additional insurance online from a 3rd party insurer to cover any excess or other costs and kept my fingers crossed that everything would be OK.
Goldcar lived up to the reputation they had made for themselves in my previous visits and basically forced us to pay an additional 14 Euros a day because apparently our fully comprehensive insurance and additional policy didn't cover us properly. I knew about having to pay for a full tank of fuel and await the rebate for the fuel left when we returned the car.
The car was filthy inside and looked as though a herd of cows had trampled over the upholstery after playing in the mud. The dashboard and door trim was also covered in dirty marks which my wife cleaned with a pack of baby wipes (there was no way I was going to go and stand in the hour long queue again, to complain and there was no-one else around).
The overall cost of the car hire after inflated fuel costs and insurance extortion was about the same as Sixt who I now use because of their excellent and transparent service.
Applying pressure at the counter in a foreign country to extract more money from tourists is about as low as it gets and I will NEVER use Goldcar again. Cheap at first sight but just as expensive in the end, leaving a bad taste in the mouth and no customer service.
