“Taking unauthorised money from our account ”

We signed a contract for a car at London Airport with Europcar. We delivered the car back 52 days later as per contract. Money was taken from our account in 2 payments, which added up to the original contract. Only the first invoice was ever given. On arriving home, we found an extra $700 had been taken out. No details given. On ringing up, we were told an error had been made and that amount was put back into our account.
The next week, we discovered another $1,560 had been taken out, again, unauthorised and no invoice or explanation. Another call. They could not see the transactions and required our bank statements. These were emailed to them and we were told a reply would come within 10 working days. Nothing!! We were about to start proceedings through our Card provider, when, on checking our account, we find an amount has been put back, $200 short of the original amount, possibly due to the dollar dropping in a 3 week period. We are out of pocket by the $200, plus overdrawn fee at the bank, plus the admin. fee for the original withdrawal.
This is the 2nd time we have had trouble with this company and have since found 2 others have had money removed from their accounts without any explanation.
