“If I could give them a zero I would”

written by on 16/08/2014

After two awful experiences in a row I feel qualified to say that AA membership is a complete waste of money! I broke down in the pouring rain today - my clutch went, the car was obstructing the traffic and could not be moved. As it was raining no one stopped to help me and I could not move the car on my own! I called the AA to be told they would not be able to get to me for an hour and 40 minutes. I explained again that I was causing a major obstruction and was told to dial 999 to ask for police assistance if I was causing a hazard!!!! I called my local garage and they sent me a tow truck in 30 minutes, cost me £50 but was well worth it. I promptly phoned them to orm them not to bother I had found someone else to rescue me - so much for being the 4th emergency service, what a joke! Also, as other respondents have said, they don't attend the breakdown but send a local recovery company instead!

Several months previously my husband called the AA for his car, which was losing water and overheating. The AA man turned up, didn't even look under the car, wonder if he'd have even looked at the engine if the bonnet hadn't have already been open. He said he couldn't help, he told my husband to just top it up again with water - did we want some or did we have our own?! Hardly genius advice and no attempt was made to diagnose the problem! What exactly is the point of the AA?

These are the real reviews about the AA's service, not the manipulated satisfaction scores on their own website.
