We recently pre-booked two cars with Avis UK by telephone for collection at Malaga airport. Having been assured that EVERYTHING! was paid for and that I had taken out he Super Cover insurance (I emphasised several times that I wanted all areas of cover) which would mean no excess (WHICH COST APPROX £200 EXTRA per vehicle) we arrived to be told that this insurance only covered bodywork and not windscreen, or even worse, breakdown (considering it was Avis' own car, one would have thought that breakdown was included). The staff in Malaga airport told me that the UK staff often did not explain this properly. The UK staff do not explain that basically you are purchasing a pre-paid voucher which may not cover the total cost of the rental and will incur additional cost (obviously if you add an extra driver etc; this would be extra). The other problem is the petrol - there are 3 options (not explained in the UK), as a result we were presented with a car whose tank was full already (they said it was much cheaper this way and would get a refund on return) however it turns out that if you only use half the tank, as we did, NO REFUND IS GIVEN. No one checks the car with you on collection (we arrived late due to flight delays) and so everything is on trust. Shame that cannot be said of the information they give you when you book in the first place. I FELT CHEATED!!!!!!!!!!!! and would never advise anyone to use Avis Car Rental - unless you get a copy of ALL the information PRIOR to making a PAYMENT. I had thought that Avis was a company with a good reputation - how wrong was I. Their slogan is "We try harder" - well they need to try even more.
