“Amazing experience”

written by Danalou92 on 07/08/2014

The experience gained by being in Ghana is truly priceless! You genuinely don't understand until being in the situation and I would honestly recommend to anyone thinking about it! That being said, the organisation of the trip is sometimes questionable. A lot of this is related to the lifestyle in Ghana. If they tell you something is happening at 7am, that usually means 8am. This can be really difficult to get your head around as we come from a society matched with deadlines and you sometimes feel that your not doing enough to help. Just stick with it because it will pay off! Also if you are female, you can become offended by the way you are spoken to. There is a clear cultural difference which I found the most difficult to get my head around.
In relation to the thrive houses, I stayed in the house in Kumasi and bolga. Both were very clean and staff made sure you were looked after. Don't expect too much though, the houses aren't the ritz and you often lose running water and electricity.
Before going on the trip, if you want to keep in contact with people and use the internet, get your phone unlocked BEFORE travelling! It's such a pain to figure it out when your there! Internet bundles on the Ghanian sim are very cheap and worthwhile!

You will have an amazing time! I would do it all over again!
