“Lies, Lies and Lies”

written by djSchneider493 on 05/08/2014

Accompanied a friend to a local PC World Store to buy a laptop for her son.

Not the least impressed. Here is why:

1. When asked what the maximum amount of RAM a particular laptop would support, the salesperson said, "doesn't matter, it has already got 4GB of RAM, anything more than that would not do anything good because the processor wouldn't be able to cope any more RAM than what it has already got. I then found out myself that the RAM could be upgraded to 8GB.

2. They tried to sell MS Office 2013 H&S to my friend. When I said that in all likelihood, MS Office 2010 should be sufficient as many many people out there were still using Office 2007 and they (including the company I would for, which is one of largest 100 PLC's in UK - "footsie 100") were fine. And that I knew where to get a download copy with product key for £64.00. To my disbelief, the salesperson said something like this - "The new Windows 8.1 that comes with this laptop will not be compatible with older versions of Office. You'd be risking spending the money only to find out during installation that the Office 2010 could not be installed on the laptop. So yes the 2013 version is your only choice."
