“leave the reptiles to the experts”

written by udBenton351 on 03/08/2014

It simply escapes me how pets at home, (and i can only refer to the one in Speke Liverpool) can testify that they cater for reptile needs.
To begin with the food is always half dead and its priced higher than competitors with no loyalty card incentive. Our main supplier charges £1.60 a box buy 10 get one free. I have an account there and always buy little extras. There is never ever an incentive at Pets at home in Speke. The live food never lasts more than three days even after delivery. The competitors lasts the week which means i can buy in bulk.
Also the staff’s knowledge is so poor ive often laughed out loud at some of the random inaccurate comments. Heres one example, don’t buy dragon food bigger than the size of the head of the dragon as the food (im not kidding here) can pick at the top of its head when sleeping and cause major damage!! have you ever felt how thick bearded dragons skin is???
Secondly, I do question the welfare of the dragons being in the care of such poorly trained individuals.
I myself have safely and effectively kept many reptiles over the years and they are all fine specimens living for ten years plus.
I would suggest either employ someone with a genuine interest in reptiles therefore an understanding for the creatures to provide accurate information-or send me an email!!
Also can i suggest suppliers be changed?
Finally the welfare of the reptiles kept here is questionable. I watch them regularly, the tank is not lit well( well actually the whole viv set up is poor), cleaned well and question how often are they fed?
Ive just spotted several comments on netmums, which reaches a huge audience again pertaining to the poor care of the reptiles a pets at home!!!!em perhaps a animal protection issue pending here after all as my experience is clearly not an isolated one.
