“Please don't ever, ever use this company!”

written by Turrican on 29/07/2014

In short,
- I order a kitchen (Stamford).
- Over £600 worth of extra worktops were on the quote that only I noticed and had removed and refunded.
- I ordered other worktops separately - the day of delivery I was told they had none in stock (despite the fact I arranged for delivery two weeks prior to this). I then discover there are 18 of the items in another branch of Wickes nearby, but Wickes refused to deliver them because this was not my local branch. Wickes helpfully suggested I could hire a van and drive all the way out there myself and pick them up (even though I'd paid for delivery). I have to wait nearly two weeks for the worktops to arrive (luckily I did not have my fitter scheduled to be onsite at the time)
- The worktops finally arrive, they are awful and so I have to send them back.
- The day the kitchen is due for delivery I am called to say that the sink I ordered a month ago is out of stock and I am forced to choose a different one that I don't really like because I need one to arrive now for my fitter.
- The kitchen arrives. It has not been measured properly and so I have to have one of the wall units swapped for a smaller size.
- One of the units has damage on the front.
- I discover that one of the drawers and one of the drawer runners is damaged. I arranged for delivery of new parts. They do not arrive.
- I discover that the baskets for inside the units have not been delivered. I have to arrange for them to be delivered.
- I realise that the pelmet for around the wall units that has been delivered is for a different kitchen - I have to arrange for these to be collected and to be refunded. Wickes charged me for the collection.
Today, I discover that the Hob was not actually delivered. I currently have my fitter on site and my plumbers coming on Monday but the hobs are not kept in stock (of course). Wickes were supposed to fax the order to the supplier but forgot to do this and at no time told me that a different supplier would be delivering the hob. I have managed to arrange delivery of another hob for in a week's time.

In all, the process of ordering a kitchen from these people has been incredibly stressful and disappointing. There is a new problem almost daily and I am paying my workmen additional fees due to the ineptitude of Wickes.

They don't keep many items in stock and will only check to see if they can fulfil your order on the day it is due to be delivered. Because they contract out deliveries to drivers who each have their own little patch, the different branches cannot work together to ensure deliveries are fulfilled if one branch lacks the necessary items. Deliveries are ramshackle and clearly not checked either upon loading the vans at the store or unloading them at the destination. I will certainly never use this company again for anything and I will be urging friends not to do so either.

One final point: stay well clear of the Wimbledon branch in particular. It is unhelpful, disorganised and hard to get in touch with. I believe this is due to extremely poor management. The Catford branch is much better.
