“Kanken Photo Insert”

I've been a fan of Kanken backpacks for a while now, and ever since acquiring a DSLR camera, thought that the Kanken Photo Insert would be a nice complimentary item to house my new camera.

So, I decided to purchase it, opting for the pricier Photo Insert over cheaper eBay alternatives, and even over a Crumpler Camera Insert.

However, I must say, I was quite disappointed when the package came. After opening, and unrolling the insert, I found it to be quite flimsy, much more so than I had anticipated. The dividers provided also seemed flimsy and the velcro didn't stick to the sides as well as I would have expected.

The insert fit nicely into the backpack, but compared to other bags or photo inserts (from Crumpler for example), I didn't feel it provided as much padding and protection for my camera as I would have liked.

Everything fits nicely if you have a camera+lenses, plus two additional lenses inside the insert, just as is shown in the photograph. But, if you were to have just the camera+lenses at the top (like the photo), and nothing to fill in the other gaps, the camera just collapses downwards to the bottom of the bag because there is nothing to help keep it up.

Overall, I would personally NOT recommend this product to others contemplating about purchasing it. It is simply too expensive for what it is. Try to find other alternatives first, unless you are set on getting this photo insert because you have the money, because of the brand or because of the fact it will fit perfectly inside your Kanken backpack.
