I visited the York store with my sister who wanted to purchase a sewing machine. Although we appreciated they may not have all the models in the limited York store, we went hoping for a demonstration of the one or two we were interested in. They said lack of space was the reason they couldn't demonstrate. A small table would have overcome this problem, and in the same area a large table had been given over to a childrens crafty crayoning area. Whilst we have nothing against keeping children entertained, we felt let down by John Lewis service as the Newcastle store offers more detailed help. We did spend over £300 the two ladies were helpful polite and cheerful. It was a busy dept on the day we visited and in the present economic climate surely JL should be revisiting this dept and making better use of space. Sewing is a growth market, get onto it JL oh and please Bring fabrics into this store.
Anyone visiting the Vanguarde shopping please note a limit of four hours in the car park stay longer and it is a £80 fine, one asks is this good for business for the three large shops and eating places, you either shop or eat it would seem
