Purchased a washing machine from Currys online a few weeks ago and was given a specific delivery date. After making domestic arrangements we received a last minute text changing the day. When it eventually arrived the fitter (we had paid for installation) who seemed to be in a rush yanked the water valve off the wall. Water spurted everywhere, the utility room was flooded, I was wet through head to foot, as was the fitter! Eventually we managed to get the water turned off. He rang his office and their advice was to leave the new washing machine and to tell us to get hold of an emergency plumber. Then he left after we had given him a towel to dry himself out! Well, thanks a lot! To cut a long story short we did get hold of a plumber who eventually fixed the problem and installed the washing machine. Meanwhile we were without water for a considerable length of time and had a lot of mopping up to do.
As you might expect Currys/Knowhow agreed to pay the emergency plumbers bill but when we asked for some compensation for the stress, inconvenience and poor customer service (a small token by way of say a voucher would have been acceptable!) we were told it was not company policy to ever give compensation for this sort of thing because they could not properly quantify it!
This is not the first time we have had poor service form Currys. We had a problem last year with a vacuum cleaner that did not perform as well as claimed.
We should have gone to John Lewis. We certainly will next time we have an appliance purchase!
