I had a knock on the door one late afternoon to a sales person from ADT, he was offering a reduced rate installation for their alarm system with a monitoring service for only £5 per month for 2 years. He went on about crime rates in the area and how there has been many break ins (not that ive heard of any). Basically scare tactics into buying this alarm system, once he entered my home to discuss this further he was going through the paperwork and asked me to sign quickly, when reading the paperwork i noticed it said £22 per month for 3 years. As he noticed i was reading this he quickly started blabbing on about how ADT monitors the white house and blah blah best security alarm company in world, basically trying to distract me from reading the contract. when i queried the monthly price he said yes i said £5 per week (which is definitely did not) and if you read the small print of contract you can opt out after 2 years if you are paying below a certain price each year. Even so i had just moved into a brand new house and did want an alarm system but did not have £500+ to have one installed. so i went ahead with it still, the engineer turned up on time and installed it, even though it seemed very easy to install as it was wireless and only had 2 sensors and a door sensor. he was gone within 30minutes and alarm was up and running without any wires. it was linked upto a wireless base which is basically like a mobile phone so no need for a phone line. If the alarm goes off someone from ADT should call your key holders you nominated upto four people to inform them. The alarm is loud within the house as they said there is no need for it outside anymore as no one pays any attention to alarms anymore, its more to scare the burglar within the house because of its ear piercing high pitch screech. All in all the sales people can be deceptive but the wireless system its self isn't to bad. I have heard horror stories from people who have called them out as it was no working and the batteries just needed changing in sensors or wireless call base and then they received a very very hefty invoice for the call out charge but i have yet to witness this.
