I smoked since I was 14 years old, managed to stop for a couple of times, only a month or two at a time but after 26 years smoking I started thinking. It wasn't the health issues that worried me, no, it was the amount of money going up in smoke. I heard about champix at work with very mixed reviews. I eventually picked up the phone and rung my GP. 3 days later I was on champix. Having read the the notes it scared the hell out of me, but I thought, give it a go and see what happens. I was a 20 to 30 a day guy and by my last day I was down to 5. So I stopped. First week was hard. Not for missing cigarettes, I just didn't know what to do with my hands, a 26 year old habit dies hard you know. As the days passed I found things far easier. My fear was that I'd suffer with my morning coffee and when out for a drink. Nothing, no effect. No stress, I did not replace cigarettes with food but the odd tic tac does help. It is now 4 months and I haven't looked back since. I do miss it on the odd occasion but mostly as a habit. It has been such a success that 3 people at work stopped smoking too because if I could do it then they could do too! I went to visit friends abroad and been around 30 plus people chain smoking was the biggest test... and I passed with flying colours.... I did not fancy a cigarette... very pleased with myself.... The only side effect I had was the dreaming.... realistic or what? but it was well worth it.... I highly recommend champix... don't know if it works for everybody but I know it worked for me!
