“Awful”

written by rcRoss86 on 19/05/2014

Mortgage with Nationwide, valuation booked through countrywide for the house we intended to buy. Got the report back stating that it was £10,000 less than what we were paying so had to find the extra £10,000. Rang nationwide who told me that it was due to there being a cellar at the front of the property and it was on a hill so it may move. Went back to the estate agents who told me that the surveyor was only in the property 5 mins. I chased this up with countrywide as this was hardly enough time to make that assumption. He didnt reccomend a structural survey either so how he could say it would move is based purely on a guess. The estate agent also informed me that 10 years earlier when the seller brought the property countrywide surveyed it with no issues. I have tried to contact countrywide on numerous ocassions to get them to do a structural survey or explain their valuation but will not speak to me. I asked for their complaints procedure and they gave me a made up email address. As soon as I contacted the RICs ombudsman I got an email with their complaints procedure. They were complete rubbish. Didn't perform the survey to an adequate level and didn't want to speak to me about it. Steer clear if your looking for a surveyor and if your mortgage company uses them then keep your fingers crossed that you get the correct result.
