“So far, so good”

written by NormalNorman on 09/05/2014

Bought an A3 Quattro from AC Castle Donnington. Sale was mostly good, but they didn't tell me about the drive-away insurance, just gave me the V5C and told me to come back with tax and insurance.
They did an MOT even though there were several months left, and replaced the back disks and pads, which I though was very decent.
One minus was they had removed all the mats. I would have preferred to have the choice. This is now causing me a PITA.
It turned out to be sans-Quattro. Found out that the Haldex coupling was not working, so front wheel drive only. I didn't spot it during the test-drive although in hindsight, the signs were there, and AC made no mention of it either. Lots of Googling revealed it to be a potentially tricky and expensive fix.
E-mailed via their web site on day 7 evening, and got a phone call at 10am the next day. They called again at 11am. I called back at 12, and explained the problem. They apologised for the problem, and offered to take the car back to fix it.
They do a 3month, 3,000 mile warranty, and use their own workshop to fix stuff. I asked what they would do if it was beyond their capability, and they said that they would use their local AUDI dealer.
First available slot for repair will be day 18. Courtesy car will be provided. I offered to bring the car in.
I asked what would happen if the fix could not be achieved within the 3 months, and they said they would continue to work on it.
This is a good opportunity for AC to do the right thing, and I will sing their praises if it all goes well.
Stay tuned folks....
