“A Disappointing Experience”

written by Hoffman57 on 02/05/2014

I was given a voucher for a cookery course due to take place in Broadstairs which we booked several months ahead. As we live in London, we booked into a b and b near the venue for the night before. I turned up at the appointed time and place only to find the teacher was not on the premises and there was no class. We then took the long drive home having wasted the best part of two days and being considerably out of pocket. We contacted Into the Blue on the Monday who confirmed that the teacher had cashed in the voucher. They claimed that although we had booked the experience through them, our contract was with the teacher and any claim for a refund would have to be made to him. They did contact him and tell him that he should pay up, but in fact we were out of pocket for six weeks as he claimed he was a small operator and couldn't afford to pay. Checking their small print, they do seem to offload any responsibility for fulfilling the contract onto the supplier. They act only as a broker. I do wonder whether this would stand up in law or whether it would be judged unfair. It certainly seemed very unfair to us and we would NEVER, NEVER use Into the Blue again. Interestingly, we have not been asked to submit a review by Feefo - I wonder why?
