Having been used to the hits only, some of it was a bit disappointing. The earliest stuff sounded surprisingly like attempts to imitate the Beatles, right down to the Lennon voice. The production was a bit unimaginative and wasn't up to that of the Beatles albums. The sound was a bit thin. (Nothing to do with the remastering, which was fine.)
Having said that, there is nothing outright wrong with this set although I could easily do without their attempts to sing in French. C'est affreux!
Decent, competent pop. Excellent value for money. Much better than the more recent 5CD Original Album Classics set, which has much less, no 'sleeve' notes, older remasters and more of the stuff in mono.
If you are *real* Hollies fan, the Clarke Hick and Nash set is clearly the one to buy.
