It`s HUGE (width).

General Comments
I bought this Dansai 952 DVD player after having problems with a Dansai 1010 (remote control sensor was not in line with the "window", and it started to skip on a DVD intro when warm).

So far it's behaved itself, although my first impressions were bad - I saw a lot of artifacts / "cubes" in dark areas in one chapter of CSI (my only DVD :-}), although this does not seem to have been noticeable since - perhaps that one chapter suffers on all machines, or it's encoded badly.

The remote control problem is better, but still pretty poor by most standards. The remote itself is not a thing of beauty, and seems quite poorly laid out overall.

I've been unable to test the 5.1 sound output but the output through the 14" TV it's playing through was OK, but needed the volume control adjusting on the remote control to more closely match the normal TV volume.

The unit itself is LARGE - 43cm wide * 30cm deep * 7cm tall, so make sure you have a large space to put it in !

Bear in mind the depth measurement does not take into account any leads such as scart.

MP3 playback seems ok, but long filename support in the menus would have been nice - it's impossible to pick a track first time if the artist's name forms the first part of the filename and you have the whole album on there...

Navigation could have been made easier with a little more thought, but it's usable.

To make it region free:

Press SETUP on the remote

STOP on the front panel

PREVIOUS on the remote

NEXT on the remote

You will get a setup screen allowing you to bypass region protection.

Macro disable was NOT available in my firmware, version V25J01129, bought 11th July 2002.
