“Snags will never end and Customer Service is of little...”

written by on 17/02/2014

We bought a detached at a Persimmon development. It was the show home, so it had supposedly been regularly checked up for snags.

At check-in, we began to notice bad finishes such as unattached window and bathroom seals, holes in door frames, cracks in banister, missing pieces in kitchen and bathrooms, blocked pipes, living wires from old show home lightening, etc. Thanks goodness this house had been maintained "perfect".

Also, some appliances were not in perfect condition and had scratches or missing pieces, such hob stoppers or an oven tray, and even if we paid for them as brand new. Persimmon would not take responsibility on this, they promised to, but then did nothing about it and told us to just call the manufacturer. The manufacturer, of course, will not replace a broken rubber or scratched surface for us, as the appliance had been fitted long before.

As for the snags list, same old story as other reported here: some people came, tried to patch it, did a poor job, and we had to restart again. Before calling a tilist to fix a huge crack between the tiles of the family room bathroom, a handyman uselessly came to patch the grouting three times...The tilist finally came, but and a hole was there just as he finished doing the "job"...

We also have parking and uncivil behaviour issues in the estate and police and council will not always intervene, as this is a private road and only Persimmon can take action in that sense. After months of reporting illegal and unsafe parking in the road and sending graphic evidence of this, we were promised that a solution was on its way. When we reported the problem once again to Persimmon, they came back saying that they feared to fine or pay their own road control company as this had given them bad press in the past (!)

I believe that the reasons for their bad press is that they simply have so much to learn in terms of quality of finishings, customer service and estate management, that you could not possibly rate them otherwise.

We are happy with our house, but the road management and the poor customer service has by now ruined our image of Persimmon for ever. I honestly do not recommend to pick this as your developer, if you can avoid it, as not as trust-able as others in the market.
