“They'll take your premium but will they pay out?”

written by ahross on 17/01/2014

I have used Swiftcover, an AXA insurance company, for four years. At the beginning of December I had an accident and immediately submitted a claim. Initially Swiftcover appeared helpful, and send they would arrange for my car to be picked up and repaired. After hearing nothing for a week, I phoned up their preferred repairer who told me that they had refused the job because they were too busy. I contacted Swiftcover, and they said they would arrange with another repairer and the same thing happened again. [The problem seems to be that Swiftcover will not pay storage for a car while it is waiting to be fixed] Next they appointed a mobile repairer, and I waited for another week for them to contact me, and when they did found out they were more then 500 miles away! Then Swiftcover said they would make me an offer if I would send photographs of the car, which I did immediately. That was 25 days ago and still they have not made me an offer despite contracting therm on numerous occasions by email and phone - they keep saying they will get back to me but never do. Swiftcover operate a phone queuing system which takes between 5-20 minutes to get a person so it is very time consuming and stressful trying to sort out problems - I have spent hours on the phone, and often they said they would phone back but never did. It is now 46 days after my accident, and still I have no resolution with my damaged car still not roadworthy. I have now had resorted to trying to repair my car myself by buying parts on ebay.
If there is any possibility of you having an accident, avoid taking out insurance with these people, and save yourself the possibility of having even a fraction of the stress that I have had - far, far worse than the accident itself.
