Visited Halifax to see if we would be eligible for a mortgage and after initial checks said we would be fine to go ahead we started looking for a home. When we eventually found the right place and had an offer accepted we went back to the Halifax with what we were told to bring back with us. Everything was great and was told that they had everything for my partner but I needed to bring in bank statements and that would be sufficient with everything else we had brought in.
For 3 and a half months after having our offer accepted it was one thing after another to delay the mortgage approval. First I had to provide an employers reference and more documents. When I did so, head office were happy with my side of the application. Then it moved back onto my other half. They tried to dictate her method of payments from her current job along with not believing she earned as much as she said she did (even though we provided two years worth of payslips, a letter from her employer and a reference from the employers accountants). After this was finally resolved, they moved back onto myself and were not happy with a default I had on my credit check (satisfied but still a default) and asked me to explain it.
In the end they turned around and said no. It wasn't the decision that peeved us off, but the poor service we were being provided. Everything would only be discussed by email and that was once a week. We were constantly told that once we had done this one 'current' step that they needed, then it should all go through quickly.
Would not deal with ever again.....your lossHhalifax.
