“Uncaring Company (Avis car rentals)”

We received good service at Basal Airport and the car was good. The problems began when we arrived home. Avis sent us a bill for £25.77 which, after emailing them to ask what the amount was for, apologised and refunded the money back to us. We then received a letter containing correspondence, all in German, which turned out to be a Road Traffic Offence, committed unintentionally by my husband, with a covering letter and a payment slip. Avis had added a small paragraph in English basically telling us that an offence was committed and that they had taken costs from our credit card, which amounted to more than the penalty. Our review is basically because after numerous calls to them and trying to pay this fine ourselves has been very difficult as we cannot understand german so we do not know what to do. There has been no-one willing to help us but they are quick to take money from us without our knowledge just because it says they can in their Terms & Conditions. So beware if you are driving abroad and obtain a speeding fine, or any other offence. Avis will leave you to get on with it.
