Ever tried contacting your Avis rental branch to sort out a problem or modify the rental period?
Well, if you have, you will have discovered that you will spend 30+ minutes waiting for the call to be answered no matter what time of the day you try. This is clearly a trick as the company uses 0844 numbers for all contact in the UK which are charged at 5p per minute and, at the branch I used, when you physically turn up in person there are always plenty of staff on hand and none of them are ever on the phone. Even getting through the menu you are greeted with on calling the branch numbers takes about a minute before you even get the chance to select the 'speak to the branch' option.
Calling reservations, or customer services (also charged at the 0844 rate) results in a 'sorry, can't help you!' response and advice to continue using the 0844 branch number.
Whilst you can obtain good value rental rates from Avis in the UK, particularly through comparison websites, potential customers should be aware of the costs involved, and length of time it takes, should you need to contact the branch you've rented from and the lack of any assistance in this matter from Avis customer services. I can't comment on their email contact option as I didn't use it as I needed an answer the same day.
