Used Megabus return in March for a trip to Edinburgh with my boyfriend, purchased student tickets as I had done in the past and presented my student card to the driver without issue.
Journey to Edinburgh was without issue as usual however on boarding the return journey experienced some of the poorest customer service I could imagine. I was holding a smoothie as we waited in the queue to board the return bus and the driver started beeping and shouting and pointing in a rude manner until one of the other people in the queue informed me that he didn't want the smoothie on the bus. I was embarassed as I put it in the bin and rejoined the queue.
When I boarded the bus a passenger before me was asked to present an NUS card specifically which she stated she couldn't find in her bag however the driver said she was fine to board. However when I presented my tickets and our student cards he said that because we didn't have NUS cards and I would have to pay the difference for the journeys in and out. I didn't have cash and he said we would have to go and pay at the ticket in the station but he would be leaving in 3 minutes even if we weren't back. He was completely rude and contemptuous as he spoke to me. I said he let somebody else on without student ID and he dismissed this. I also informed a steward at the station and the woman who processed my additional payment and was totally dismissed. Meanwhile my boyfriend had to run up to the bus to prevent it leaving without us onboard.
The driver was vile even as we pulled in at Glasgow he beeped and shouted at passengers he deemed not getting off the bus fast enough and particularly at a man with lots of sports equiptment that he was trying to get together to carry off.
Overall ridiculous experience I hope the driver recieves as poor customer service and appreciate how horrible it is. The only reason I'm giving any starts is because I did get from A to B.
Subsequently used Megabus once and driver was also horrible, really shouting at elderly people that they weren't going fast enough in boarding and just unpleasant. I actually got a train back on this occasion as I was disgusted with this conduct.
Will not be using Megabus ever again I'll just pay the extra on the train where staff actually treat customers with respect.
