“Avis Thomson Rip Off ”

written by on 01/10/2013

I recently stayed at the Royal Hotel in Polichrono Greece (booked via Thomsons) and wished to hire a small car for 3 days. I could have hired one in the local village for 135 Euro's with no excesses but it would have to have been collected from the village (10 minutes walk away) and it had to be returned with the fuel at the same level as received rather than full. I obtained a written quote from the Thomson rep at the hotel on behalf of Avis for 145 Euro's with NO excesses allegedly on a 3 days for the price of 2 deal (but nobody believes that). I agreed to have the car delivered to the hotel (included in the price)and pay Avis. On delivery of the car it transpired that the price of 145 Euro's did not cover theft of the car or personal accident insurance, nor did it cover the wheels, tyres, mirrors or underside of the car. The price was 161.61 Euro's (without the accident insurance) which for 3 days was expensive (but for 2 days would have been ridiculously so). Whats more the car (a Toyoto Aygo) had 87209 km on the clock, the rear bumper was cracked and badly scratched and there were scratches on both sides of the body and doors. Given that I wanted the car I proceeded with the agreement but had I known the true price in advance I would have gone with a local company not Avis. I feel that the Thomson rep was untruthful in their dealings with me and the car was poor value for money.
