My old car was about to give up the ghost. I've always bought cars 2nd hand, as I was never bothered about paying thousands for the new car smell.
I do a high mileage every year, so needed a fuel efficient car. I did my homework and decided the best car for me and my family was a Ford Focus Estate Econetic - enough room for a week's camping gear for a week, plus good fuel economy.
As the Econetic engine was relatively new, there were only a handful for sale in the entire country 2nd hand. Our local dealers wanted around 20k for a new one, even after all of their discounts.
I did a search for online car brokers, and found many of them. Drive The Deal seemed to be the most trusted one there, so I gave them a try.
I specified my car, got a price that was about 70% of the list price. I gave them a ring to verify the facts and figures, and made sure I hadn't specified the wrong car. They confirmed it all, took my credit card details, and at this point, I was passed over to a Ford dealer, who I dealt with from that point on.
I can't fault Drive The Deal's service. They did what they said they would, did it when they said they'd do it, and it was completely painless.
The new car we got was actually cheaper than most of the 2nd hand ones out there! Plus it was built to our spec, so we got the extras that we wanted.
The next time we buy a new car (which may be a few years yet!), we'll definitely use them again. I'd certainly not use a main dealer to buy a car.
