We planned a vacation to Fayetteville, Arkansas for September 14-21, 2013 and booked the hotel through Expedia several months in advance. We received our confirmation number three different times and read the note about not worrying about calling to confirm as the itinerary was set.
We headed out to Fayetteville on September 14 and when we arrived at our hotel after a very long day of riding (did I mention we were on motorcycles!) to check in, the hotel manager said that no such reservations existed and there were no rooms available due to the Bikes, Blues, and BBQ event held there!
We called the customer service number at Expedia and could not understand one word as the person must have been in a foreign country! The Hotel manager got on our phone and told her of our plight and that no reservations or fax was ever received by him. Expedia hung up on him and he handed back our phone!
We looked all over town and finally found a room good only for 3 days of the 10 day trip. I called Expedia the next morning and told them what had happened. There was NO explanation and nothing they could do but give me a $100 discount on our next trip through them! The hotel alone cost us over $800 more than we had booked not to mention the gas, time and frustration.
Now, if were only us I probably wouldn’t be writing this but during our stay there were SEVERAL who came into our now new hotel with Expedia papers in hand only to be turned away. One group of 6 could not find a room and after 9:00 PM decided to drive 300 miles back home and cancel their trip!
Expedia and all of their affiliates should be ashamed! I’ve never been treated this way and will never use them again. Even the hotel staff said that they were very rude and they always hated to talk to them. This is just a ‘heads up’ for anyone using this awful company. BEWARE!
