“A pleasurable experience”

written by on 11/09/2013

After all the horror stories you read about renting cars in Spain, Drivalia made it very quick, easy and comfortable for us. All the staff we ran into spoke English very well, were friendly, and were obviously trained to satisfy the customer, rather than up-sell and fuss around small print.

No quibbles when the car was handed back, and no hidden charges - even considering the below.

We did not take the additional insurance, as I arranged it elsewhere (Insurance4carhire.com). They did warn me that they would take the excess charge from me in the event of a claim, and that I might not be fully covered, but that was my responsibility and I was happy with how they dealt with it.

The car was in very good condition - only a few superficial scratches and wheel trim scuffs. When we arrived at our destination, the boot latch broke (so we had to get in from the back seat), but it was a very minor set back and didn't spoil the enjoyment of the car. I didn't call them when it happened (tbh, I forgot all about it as we only used the boot to get the suitcases in and out), but mentioned it to them when I handed the car back - they didn't have any problems ( it had happened before apparently).

You pay just a little over the standard price for a full tank of fuel when you pick the car up, but the benefit being that you can drop it off empty. It made total sense to us, as we used the car every day of our 7 day trip (we used almost exactly a full tank), but I don't imagine it being very economical if you're not using the car that much.

We rented at Alicante airport and took the car into the Spanish countryside, meaning we had to go down a few dust tracks - I haven't compared the before and after photos I took, but I imagine there were a few minor scratches on the car from the rubble. They had no problems if there were!

Highly recommended - will use again if we do a similar style of holiday again!
