“pass your driving test, moving house, elephant will...”

written by billythegoat on 20/08/2013

My GF had a prov licence and for her insurance it was 1,200 per year. After a number of costly and expensive lessons she passed her test first time with no problem and with the delight decided to ring to amend her policy so she can drive solo. Uner 2k miles per year I might add...To our shock and horror the move from provisional to full licence increase the premium by double... Why you may ask, well its because they class full licence drivers at more risk than provisional. While part of the argument may make a slight bit of sense it got me thinking, her car isn't dual control, on provisional she was surely more of a risk, if she crashed it I couldn't stop it! Anyway, as sickening as this was they went though the full policy and we had just moved house the day after her pass... So we updated the address, to my horror they classed a new estate as high risk compared to the old area of high crime I lived in and increased the cost by a further 500£. After trying to speak to a manager we got fobbed off and had to cancel the insurance considering the cars value is around 500 itself. I wonder do elephant give a monkeys about their future customers!
