We recently took a trip through Star Tours and we had a very bad experience with our assigned tour manager. He was rude, took the matter personally when we asked him questions and he didn't like us suggesting anything. It was as if he knew everything and no one should question him.
Some of the places where we were taken to were a total waste of time. Here are some examples:
- visiting Swarovski in Austria for over 3+ hours when we had less than 4 hours there! - aren't there better things to see in Austria than visiting a jewelry shop?
- visiting the Murano Glass Factory in Venice while we had ~3 hours total. There are certainly more things to do in Venice.
- visiting the Cuckoo Clock Factory in Black Forest in Germany - this is not visiting the Black Forest!
While we were in Rome, we could have gone to the Sistine Chapel, St. Peter's Basilica, etc. as they have more significance than many places we went to. I am sure Star gets its portion of these "commercial" visits.
The tour manager knew far less than our few hours of research on areas we visited. He tried to show-off how much he knew but we knew he was incorrect and our fellow travelers were just laughing amongst themselves! He chose to remain silent when we were passing by important historic places. Well, this maybe a good thing knowing his expertise!
Food and hotels were okay. Not the best but you would think you will get some reasonable hotels as their tours are not cheap by any means.
We don't know if our experience with Star Tours would have been different if we had a different tour manager. Hard to tell but we thought we share our experience with others.
