“Even though the Mondeo has been around now for a...”

written by Andrew Roberts on 07/08/2005

Good Points
Looks good. Carries loads. Seats are comfortable. Very good value for money if you wait and buy either a demo or low milage model. Look for 6 speeder, does help on economy.

Bad Points
Heavy on fuel if thrashed, but this is indicative of driving a V6.
Exhaust could do with twin outlets to let the engine breath better.
Brakes could do with being uprated, Fade can be experienced at high speeds.
Light interior needs careful use, as it marks easily.
Badges attract thieves, if you can remove them, especially the V6 side markers.
Dreadful wind noise from the mirrors.
Plastic fittings on grill and rear bumper are prone to coming unclipped.

General Comments
Even though the Mondeo has been around now for a while, it still is a good looking, and generally all round, good family car. Beware the fuel consumtion if you don't like visiting the pumps. Don't complain if you buy one, and feel it is expensive to run, remember you are driving a V6.

Wheels need careful checking due to corrosion around the valve area (originals had steel ones which react with the alloy), replace with standard rubber valves. Ford did supply new wheels at 70% discount due to corrosion.

DON'T RISK ANY CAR WITH METALLIC/PERAL PAINT IN A CARWASH. Wash by hand and chammy off. Paint looks awful with swirl marks.
