“Very good, except for..”

Everything was very good. Informative, simple, trouble free. Only one problem, which could have been very embarrassing. We had assumed that the payment for our stay had already been taken when we booked. On leaving, I was simply going to leave the room key on the (unmanned) reception desk and go. My wife, fortunately, said that we ought to ring for attention and actually hand it over. Only then were we told that payment hadn't actually been taken, and I still had to hand over my credit card and input the pin number. I will know next time, but this should be made much clearer for first time users.
