“Useless sales assitant”

I was recently given a post office gift voucher by my friends that I intended to spent in River Island. I went into town today to do it, and when I have chosen a swimming suit that I liked I proceeded to the check out, thinking that I will be using the voucher to part pay for my purchase. However when I gave this voucher to the sales assistant behind the counter she said that she is not sure if I could use it in the store. I reassured her that I have checked before hand, and post office vouchers can indeed be used in River Island (as well as many other shopping outlets). The sales assistant then proceeded to swipe the voucher card twice, and told me that there is nothing on it, and she can not use it. She didn't make an attempt to ask one of her colleagues or manager for help, probably assuming that I have an empty card and it is in fact my problem but not her inability. I left the shop without my purchase, and went to nearby post office branch to check the gift voucher balance. Here it was confirmed to me that there is indeed some money on the card,which I can use in River Island. However I was not going to go back back because of the fact that there was no effort made on the part of customer service of River Island to help me in the first place. Post office vouchers - is not a new invention, and people behind the tills of shops like River Island should be aware of them, and should be able to use them. It is not exactly rocket science - to be able to process a gift card. I am not intending to go back to River Island again.
